Bill O’Quin is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana He graduated with a BS degree from Louisiana State University in 1967 and received his MS Degree from Troy State University in Alabama in 1971. From 1967 to 1971, he served as an Army helicopter pilot in and attained the rank of Captain.
Bill started his financial services career in 1971 in sales. In 1977 he became a manager for Prudential Insurance in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. From 1977 to 1994 he was the General Manager for what became one of Prudential’s largest agencies. During this time he and his associates won numerous awards for agency excellence. In July 1994, he retired from Prudential and accepted a position as a regional for American General Life with responsibility for the marketing operations for 12 states.
Bill perfected a business insurance selling tool that is formerly marketed by Pictorial Publishers as Business Needs Analysis. In 1983, he published Personal Needs Analysis through Pictorial and in 1990, he co-authored Estate Planning Insurance Considerations. With his partner, Joan M. Barrett, CLU, ChFC, he created Building a Successful Financial Services Practice. He is author of the Priority Planning Concept and the Simpler Way series of how to manuals on converting customers into multi-product clients.
In March 1995 he and Joan Barrett launched Financial Services Online. FSO’s Virtual Sales Assistant which now has over 2 gigabytes of interactive sales support and resource material. FSO (http://www.fsonline.com) also publishes Financial E-News, Financial Services Journal and Messages from the Financial Masters. With an e-mail distribution of over 200,000+, these publications are the largest of their kind on the Internet.
He is a past member of the Fort Worth and Dallas CLU and Underwriters Associations and a past president of the Fort Worth General Agents and Managers Association. He served on the board of directors for the Ft. Worth CLU and Dallas GAMA, as well as the Editorial Board for the GAMA News Journal, the national publication of GAMA.
Now retired, he works in various capacities with other industry and civic organizations. He now lives in his home town of Baton Rouge. He is a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary, former president of the Baton Rouge Round Table, board chariman of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, board chair the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Volunteers of America, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and vice president of Cadets of the Ole War Skule.
